Home from Home new specialist fostering opportunity to support children with a high level of need

Bradford Fostering Service is recruiting a foster care family / partnership to provide specialist short break support to children with complex health needs and / or disabilities. The foster carers will move into an adapted property and provide specialist planned short break care to a small number of children with a high level of need for support.

The spacious four-bedroomed property is set in enclosed grounds in the BD4 area of Holmewood in Bradford. Two of the bedrooms, along with one of the two bathrooms, are adapted. The house sits in large fenced gardens.

The carers would live in the property rent-free as well as receive the appropriate fees and allowances as foster carers. Both carers would need to be available to look after the children and to support one another. The carers would need to have substantial experience of caring for children with disabilities and be able to manage complex health and behaviour. Carers can be trained to support the medical/nursing care and behavioural needs if required.

The carers will be matched with and support a small number of up to six children and provide them with person-centred and
life-enhancing care on a regular schedule. The demand is particularly for weekend, evening and school holiday care and as the children are all school-aged, the carers will likely be free during the day within school hours.

Carers will receive four weeks paid holiday each year and will need to commit to a minimum of 12 months. Rent free accommodation is included in the package, but the carer will be responsible for utilities, etc on the property.

Foster carers are self-employed and the income is largely tax free due to HMRC’s tax arrangements. Foster carers are responsible for registering as self-employed with HMRC.
