At Poplars Farm Primary School, we believe the final years of primary education should be ambitious, purposeful and memorable.
We are looking for an excellent Upper Key Stage 2 HLTA who can combine strong classroom practice with warmth, creativity and high expectations. Someone who can help pupils secure the knowledge and skills they need, while also encouraging them to question, collaborate, think critically and become increasingly independent learners.
Our distinctive Poplars Curriculum is underpinned by our GROW values and New Pedagogies for Deep Learning (NPDL). We deliberately develop the 6Cs – Character, Citizenship, Collaboration, Communication, Creativity and Critical Thinking – so that pupils learn not only what to know, but how to use their learning purposefully.
In Upper Key Stage 2, this means maintaining high expectations in reading, writing and mathematics while creating opportunities for pupils to make connections across subjects, explore significant ideas, engage with real-world and global issues, and take increasing ownership of their learning.
We are looking for someone who…
Has a strong understanding of effective teaching and learning in Upper Key Stage 2;
Can confidently support and lead learning for individuals, groups and whole classes within the HLTA role;
Has high expectations for every pupil, including pupils with SEND, EAL and those who may be disadvantaged;
Can support pupils to become fluent, confident readers, writers and mathematicians and help address gaps precisely;
Understands the importance of adaptive teaching, effective questioning, modelling, scaffolding, feedback and retrieval;
Can motivate older primary pupils and develop independence, resilience and positive learning behaviours;
Values pupil voice, choice and agency and enjoys helping pupils think deeply rather than simply complete tasks;
Can create authentic opportunities for collaboration, creativity, communication and critical thinking;
Builds calm, respectful and positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues;
Is reflective, flexible and excited to contribute to a school that continues to develop its practice.

We want our Upper KS2 pupils to leave Poplars Farm with strong academic foundations, but also with the confidence to communicate, the character to persevere, the ability to collaborate, the creativity to imagine possibilities and the critical thinking needed to make thoughtful decisions.
Our relational approach is equally important. We believe children learn best when they feel safe, known, respected and that they belong. Adults model calm, consistent relationships and help pupils develop responsibility, self-regulation and readiness for secondary school and beyond.
