Northern Star Academies Trust is seeking an experienced and highly organised Senior Governance Professional to join our small expert governance team. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in supporting high-quality governance across our Trust and making a real impact on our strategic success.
About the role
Working closely with the Governance Lead, you will deliver a first-class governance support service, ensuring compliance, best practice, and efficient governance operations across the Trust.This is a varied position combining governance, compliance, and high-level administration, where your judgement, professionalism, and attention to detail will be essential.
Key responsibilities
- Provide expert advice to Trustees and governance stakeholders on legal, constitutional, and procedural matters
- Ensure the Trust meets all statutory and regulatory requirements
- Plan and manage governance meetings, including agenda setting, attendance, and minute-taking
- Maintain accurate and compliant records, ensuring policy adherence
- Monitor developments in legislation and governance best practice
- Support recruitment, induction, and training of governance members
- Coordinate hearings and panels (e.g., complaints, exclusions, disciplinary matters)
- Provide guidance on data protection, FOI, and subject access requests
- Ensure school websites and policies remain compliant and up to date
- Build strong communication systems across all levels of governance
About you
We are looking for a professional who:
- Has strong knowledge or experience of governance, compliance, or regulatory frameworks
- Demonstrates excellent organisational and communication skills
- Can provide clear, impartial, and well-informed advice
- Is highly discreet, with the ability to handle confidential information
- Thrives in a fast-paced environment and manages competing priorities effectively
- Is flexible, with the ability to attend occasional evening meetings and travel within the Trust
