This post will be based in Bradford’s Deaf and MSI Children and Young People Service, initially in the peripatetic Support Team for Deaf Children.

We are seeking to recruit a creative, innovative and experienced Teacher of the Deaf to work in the Support Team for Deaf Children to support Deaf children and their families across a range of settings including the early years, maintained schools, resourced provisions and special schools.

As a Teacher of the Deaf you will carry out the responsibilities of the role including:

  • Support to teachers, pupils and parents/carers in developing and managing approaches and provision for deaf children in Primary and Secondary Schools
  • Optimising outcomes for these children by providing guidance to schools through assessment, teaching, training and support for staff.
  • A commitment to providing families with balanced, unbiased support and advice to enable them to make an informed choice for their deaf children
  • Working in partnership with other agencies who support deaf children

Significant recent experience of working with deaf children is desirable.

Applications are welcome from experienced and qualified Teachers of the Deaf. We will also consider outstanding and experienced qualified Teachers in Primary or Secondary Schools, looking to develop their career in working with deaf children. You must be willing to undertake the mandatory qualification for Teachers of the Deaf.

The Code of Practice on the English language requirement for public sector workers, Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 requires that Councils ensure that all candidates applying for customer facing posts must be assessed in order to establish their fluency in English.

The criteria under special knowledge and experience on the job profile which is shown in this advert outlines what level of fluency you will be expected to demonstrate.  Therefore, it is essential that you provide examples in your application.
