Main Duties / Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain an up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the areas of teaching and pupil support for which the post-holder is responsible
  • To plan effective work to meet the learning needs of allocated pupils in a consistent and effective way
  • To use appropriate teaching and classroom management strategies to motivate pupils and enable each to progress
  • To monitor the progress of pupils for whom the post-holder is responsible to set expectations and give constructive feedback
  • To maintain appropriate records to demonstrate progress made by pupils
  • To participate fully in professional development activities to develop practice further, sharing the learning from these as appropriate
  • To work within and make an active contribution to the policies and aspirations of the school
  • To work within the school ethos, aims and mission statement
  • To supervise and support the work of associate staff as required
  • To liaise professionally with outside agencies, other schools, parents / carers and community groups in order to enhance and support pupil’s achievement
  • To prioritise and manage own time effectively, balancing the demands of teaching, subject leadership (where appropriate) and whole school development
  • To take responsibility for own professional development and achieving personal goals / targets in relation to the school’s appraisal procedures and the national standards for teachers.
  • To fulfil all of the requirements and duties as set out in the current Pay and Conditions documents relating to the conditions of employment of teachers.
  • To fulfil all of the responsibilities and duties required by the school’s policies on teaching and learning.

NB – Additional duties will be required of teachers working at UPS level, as outlined in the Career Stage Expectations document.
